The suspect was arrested within 18 hours after the murder was reported to the police. According to the police, the suspect said during interrogation that he was drunk at the time of the incident and he did not intend to kill her. He said he assaulted the victim in a fit of rage, without "realizing it would lead to her death". Lieutenant-Colonel Faisal Issa Al Qasim, director of security media, said the incident took place on Wednesday. A tourist, who stood trial on the charge of assaulting and resisting an on-duty police officer, has been cleared by a Dubai court. The Saudi tourist, 39, has also been acquitted by the Court of First Instance of the charge of damaging a public property for he was accused of tearing up the officer's uniform. He earlier denied the charges at court, claiming he was under the influence of alcohol and did not recall the incident. The case dates back to May 4 in Al Rafaa. The policeman told the prosecutor: "We were alerted about a fight at a night club. The accused was there with other persons. He was agitated and was being restrained by the security guards there when he tried to assault the other men." A murder investigation has been launched after the man’s body was found with bullet injuries on Thursday morning. The police said the body belonged to an Emarati man in his 40s but did not disclose his other identity details. The police were alerted about the incident when a member of the public spotted the body in a car parked in a mountain area. Police patrols, personnel from CID and forensic experts rushed to the scene and shifted the body to a hospital. He will face deportation after serving his sentence. The Criminal Court also ordered his phone to be confiscated, according to Al Bayan. He will also be liable to pay for the cost of the legal proceedings. The complainant, a woman, revealed to the court that the accused slandered her and insulted God during an altercation between them.
